Morning – Towards a creative vision
This session centres on identifying and nurturing your unique creative voice. You’ll learn practical strategies to overcome common barriers—time constraints, technical hurdles, costs, and competition. By recognising what makes you unique, you will unlock a deeper level of creativity and clarify your direction and goals.
Afternoon – Art and craft of capture + the art of seeing art
After lunch, we dive into the evolving world of cameras and technique, drawing on Steve’s 50 years of experience and his recent shift from DSLR to mirrorless. We will simplify the process of choosing and using gear that supports your creative vision. Steve will share his go-to settings and approaches, showing how your camera can become an extension of your imagination.
We then move into an Art of Seeing walk through the Mary Cairncross forests, finishing with a panoramic sunset shoot of the Glasshouse Mountains from the Tranquil Maleny verandahs.
Optional: Join Steve and Andrea for an evening drink and, for locals or guests staying onsite, dinner on the balcony (not included in the event cost).Photography is not all about cameras and software;
it is much more about sensing, feeling and interpreting our creative vision. – Steve Parish
Above: Transformation of a RAW photo image of the fallen leaves of an Illawarra Flame Tree from the Sanctuary forest floor into a spectacular piece of wall art for your home is a feature of our weekend together. We will show you step-by-step how to transform your images into a range of styles for wall art.
Sunday — 8.00 am to 6.30 pm
Morning – Art at your feet photo walk + the digital darkroom
Begin with an early forest walk, learning how to craft dramatic images from the forest floor. Back in the Tranquil Maleny studio, Steve demonstrates how expressive editing can add soul and emotion to your images—using your photographs as examples.
We then explore how to build curated collections with meaning, set priorities, and turn your computer into a focused creative hub.
Afternoon – Sharing your creative works + photoshoot at Gardners Falls
We explore opportunities within your chosen genres—wildlife, street, birds in flight, macro, underwater, and more. Steve shows you how to share your work safely and effectively, create value for others, and build meaningful connections through your art.
To conclude the weekend, we travel to nearby Gardners Falls for flowing water and rainforest photography—a beautiful and inspiring finale (see below).
